This artwork has been used by the Miami Serpentarium as their logo since the 1950s. It was painted by Pete Porter and depicts a golden Indian cobra against a temple background.

Cobras are worshipped in India as harbingers of fertility. Their diet of rodents is recognized as important contribution to agriculture.

This particular image was scanned from the cover of the book SNAKES - How to Keep Snakes as Pets by Mervin F. Roberts, published in 1957. The book features Haast and the labs.

In the early 1980's, Bill Haast's daughter Shantih modernized the original work into the logo that Miami Serpentarium Laboratories uses today. Shantih is an audio engineer and composer in Los Angeles, CA.
